Problems concerning the determination of the steady-state radiation regime in homogeneous plane-parallel atmospheres containing isotropic or unidirectional primary energy sources are examined. A relation is established between the radiation fields in semiinfinite and finite media containing isotropic energy sources. It is shown that the radiative intensity can be determined in certain cases without integrating the transfer equation and that only the relevant source function and some elementary algebraic operations need be involved in these cases. Asymptotic expressions are given for obtaining the internal radiation fields both far from and near the energy source.
