This paper reviews cyclic light variations in S Doradus stars (Luminous Blue Variables), and focuses on the long-term cyclic character of the the S Dor phenomenon. Frequency analysis of light curves of these stars is discussed with emphasis on statistical complications and problems of physical interpretation, and comparisons are made with artificial data and cycles in data from other fields of research.
