Observations of the linear and circular polarization of the peculiar X-ray source AM Her are presented. Assuming that the source is a binary star, the combination of polarization data with the radial-velocity, photometric, and X-ray data of many other authors severely constrains some of the geometrical properties of the system. The observations further suggest that AM Her may be the first object in which the linear polarization is of the order of the square of the circular polarization, as predicted by the gray-body magnetoemission model of Kemp (1970).
