Various aspects of the flare activity of UV Ceti-type red dwarfs are reviewed. Photometry of UV Ceti stars is examined in detail along with flare light curves, the temporal distribution of flares, flare energy distributions, flare-star spectra, and radio and X-ray emission from UV Ceti stars. Nonflare activity of UV Ceti stars is discussed, emphasizing their strong emission-line spectra and small-amplitude quasi-periodic brightness variations. Several interpretations of flare observations and physical models of flare activity are critically evaluated, and similarities between solar activity and red-dwarf flare activity are outlined. Evidence for the existence of intense magnetic fields in UV Ceti stars is summarized.
