Ground-based CCD parallaxes now reach or exceed +/- 0.5 mas accuracy when sufficient data are accumulated. Furthermore, use of a camera with a neutral-density spot now makes it possible to observe bright stars relative to faint, distant reference stars. For the first time, this combination allows a meaningful comparison with Hipparcos parallaxes. At the present, 23 stars on the USNO program have sufficient data (with ground-based errors smaller than 1.4 mas) to make this comparison. These preliminary data are presented. The agreement with Hipparcos results is excellent. In another 1-2 years, approximately 70 stars will be available having ground-based errors approximately +/- 0.5 mas. Several Cepheids, Miras, HB stars, and other stars of special interest are on the USNO program, but unfortunately most of them require more data before drawing astrophysical conclusions.
