Stars: Individual: He 2350-3908/Rx J2353.0-3852, Cataclysmic Variables
Scientific paper
We present time resolved CCD photometry and spectroscopy of the cataclysmic variable HE 2350-3908 discovered in the Hamburg/ESO survey. We find that the orbital period of this source is 78.2 min. This is the shortest orbital period known to date for a cataclysmic variable with a normal hydrogen-rich secondary. The optical spectrum and the orbital light curve of HE 2350-3908 is very similar to WZ Sge, and we argue that the source is a dwarf nova type cataclysmic variable with a very low mass-transfer rate, and a long recurrence time.
