Pulsars: Individual: Her X-1, Stars: Neutron, Stars: Rotation
Scientific paper
The evidence for free precessing neutron stars is discussed. Her X-1 and the Crab pulsar show periodic modulations in their light curves which can be ascribed to free precession. We show that both measured periods can be interpreted in terms of a unique model. It is interesting to note that the same model also explains well the eccentricities of rotating planets.
