A model for the evolution of pulsars is proposed. Using data for 292 pulsars, it is shown that variations of their period, the time derivative of the period, and the angle between the magnetic moment and spin fit into a self-consistent model, while the dependence of energy losses on the angle corresponds to losses through magnetodipole radiation.
