Particle-Theory And Field-Theory Models Of The Early Universe, Origin, Formation, And Abundances Of The Elements

Scientific paper

All characteristic effects of superconducting cosmic strings are due to the large current such strings may carry. Here we identify a new and quite efficient mechanism for current generation: the straightening of an infinite Brownian string. This mechanism allows for the maximal current to be generated by a primordial magnetic field from 5 to 12 orders of magnitude weaker than in any other scenario of current generation known so far. Such weak magnetic fields are easily achieved, for example, in inflationary models with broken conformal invariance. Thus, numerous superconducting loops, carrying up to the maximal current, could have been present at epochs of nucleosynthesis and recombination. This may significantly alter our understanding of important processes at these times.
