The mean diameters of voids are determined for various sizes of galaxy and cluster samples, cold dark matter model simulated samples, and samples of randomly spaced clusters. The void diameters are determined using two methods. In one method pencil beams are put through the sample volume and mean distances between consecutive density maxima are determined. The other method involves the determination of the case diameters of empty spheres surrounded on various sides by galaxies at equal distances. In the observed and simulated samples, the mean void diameters increase with sample size, indicating the self-similarity of the structure on various scales. In the randomly spaced cluster samples, the void diameters are independent of the sample size, confirming the nonfractal nature of the distribution.
