Scientific paper
The influence of magnetic activity on the period variations of very
close late-type main sequence binaries is studied for W UMa-type contact
systems. In particular, the hypothesis connecting changes of the
inertial and quadrupole moment of the components with period variations
is critically studied and rejected.
