Two new optically selected samples of medium-bright QSOs with z less than 2.2 and B not less than 19 are defined. The contribution of QSOs coming from the complete spectroscopic follow-up to B = 19 of the Cerro El Roble UVX search is considered. The medium-bright QSO sample in the Large Field (MBQS) has 50 members in a 22.9 deg exp 2 area with a completeness in the 65-80 percent range. The medium-bright QSO sample in the Master Region has 14 members in a 2.5 deg exp 2 area and approaches almost full completeness. Three QSOs, or 6 percent, of the MBQS are BALs. This percentage agrees well with the value found in the large AAT UVX-QSO (AAT87) sample. A new procedure is used to adopt a 'standard' integral surface density for the QSO population with z less than 2.2 and B = 21. The number-redshift relation for the MBQS in the Large Field is found to be in good agreement with the large AAT87 color sample of Boyle et al. (1987). Evidence is found in favor of inhomogeneities on the surface distribution of QSOs with z less than 2.2 and B approximately equal to 19 in the Large Field.
