Galaxies chosen from the Second Reference Catalogue of Bright Galaxies are used to explore the possibility of distinguishing between normal spirals and barred spirals based on the IR color-color diagram. The results are shown to be unexpectedly sensitive to both the selection criteria and the choice of catalog. Although the barred and unbarred color distributions are found to differ, it is concluded that a given galaxy or group of galaxies cannot be assigned a definite type based on these infrared colors alone.
