A method is proposed for measuring the large-scale electric field at ground level that eliminates local fluctuations due to turbulent wind and space charges from the electrode effect by averaging them out in time and space through the use of a system of horizontally stretched long wire antennas. To be able to detect a voltage of 0.1-1 V at the output, the whole antenna system is floated electrically and no electrical connection to the ground is used in the circuit including the power supply. The system will be able to record the average diurnal variation of one component of the ionospheric electric field and possibly to measure electric field variations from auroral storms.
