The Grating Infrared Spectrometer (GRIS) is a prism cross-dispersed spectrometer utilizing a Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer (NICMOS 3) detector array for moderate and high dispersion spectroscopy in the near infrared spectral region. The spectrometer is cryogenically cooled with liquid nitrogen and operates on the 2.3 m Steward Observatory Telescope. Initial use proves it to be an excellent tool for near infrared astrophysics
