The interaction of the chromospheric UV radiation field on the carbon-rich circumstellar shell of the evolved star TX Psc is studied, using weak and strong extended chromosphere models. The spatial distributions of the abundances of the molecules HCN and SiS in the internal layer of the envelope are presented. HCN and SiS are able to survive the influence of the chromospheric UV radiation field in homogeneous and clumped shells, owing to the shielding provided by heavy elements and dust which mainly prevent the decay of the molecules by photodissociation. The molecule H2 is photo-destroyed by the effect of the unattenuated UV radiation field inside a weak and a strong chromosphere.
