It is assumed that the compressed accretion matter on the crust of a neutron star with magnetic field has ferromagnetic permeability. The observed inverse correlation between field strength and accreted mass can be deduced, by means of the analytic calculation of a proposed crust screen model. The field-period relation P = 2.7 ms B5/79 is also presented, which fits for the equilibrium period line of X-ray binary sources.
