The accuracy of the transition probability scale for the 4s-4p transitions of astrophysical interest in P I is established on the basis of two independent calculations performed with the Relativistic Hartree-Fock (HFR) and SUPERSTRUCTURE (SST) codes. Both physical models take into account the most important configuration intercation (CI) and relativistic effects. The present oscillator strengths lead to a refined value for the photospheric abundance of phosphorus: AP = 5.45 +/- 0.06 in the usual logarithmic scale. The standard meteoritic abundance is, however, higher by about 32%.
