History Of Astronomy: Supernovae

Scientific paper

The author supports his hypothesis, that the SN 1054 was observed in the old continent too, with the finding that a golden coin figuring Constantin IX exists in two editions, the most rare (20 specimens out of the 4000 known) showing two stars in the field, one on either side of the emperor facing bust. The two stars are interpreted as the images of Venus and the Supernova which were flanking the Sun at the end of June 1054.
