The contribution of discrete sources to the hard gamma-ray background is estimated. Flat spectrum quasars, and to a lesser extent BL Lac objects, make an important contribution, which may be crudely estimated from the GRO (Gamma Ray Observatory) results combined with the radio source counts. Normal galaxies contribute probably at the 10% level with the importance of the contribution depending upon the still uncertain evolutionary effects.
