Molecular hydrogen emission at 2 μm has been detected in five out of fifteen planetary nebulae surveyed. Each of the sources detected is spatially extended, and presents a new opportunity to study the distribution of shocked molecular gas. A map of the nebula NGC 3132 in the S(1) line of H2 shows that the emission is in the form of a shell just outside the brightest optical regions. IC 4406 has been mapped in both H2 and Brackett γ, and appears to consist of a cylinder of hot molecular gas surrounding the ionized material.
