The Pierre Auger Observatory is an international collaboration for the detailed study of the highest energy cosmic rays. The Observatory will operate at two similar sites, one in the northern hemisphere and one in the southern hemisphere. Important contributors to this effort are institutions in latin american countries. The Observatory is designed to collect a statistically significant data set of events with energies greater than 1019 eV and with equal exposures for the northern and southern skies.
