The coming of the Internet era has produced an important revolution in the world of amateur astronomy, comparable to that following the introduction of CCD cameras. The possibility to join international campaigns, sharing data in real time and fine tuning the observing session opens new research perspectives previously unknown. The author discusses some of them, based on his own experience with some recent astronomical events in the field of variable stars, minor bodies and GRB.
