The authors consider a special class of MHD equilibria and analyze their
stability against arbitrary MHD perturbations by using the MHD energy
principle. These equilibria are shown to be stable. A particular member
of this class of equilibria corresponds to the prominence model of
Kippenhahn and Schlüter.
