Consideration is given to a previously unknown faint interstellar filament found on a deep U-plate with a 4h exposure time. The filament is interpreted as pure forbidden O II doublet radiation at 372 nm with an emission measure around 3-5 cm to the -6 pc. It is identified with a slow shock front (30-50 km/s) from the Monogem SNR at a distance of 300 pc as deduced by Nousek et al. (1981). A photographic search in these forbidden O II lines is shown to hold the greatest promise for detecting nearby slow shock fronts from old supernova remmants.
