The anisotropy of clustering in redshift-space provides a diagnostic for the mean matter density parameter Ωm and the rms amplitude of dark matter clustering σ8. Large scale distortions, the "infall" regime, and small scale distortions, the "finger-of-god" regime, provide separate and to some extent complementary constraints on these parameters. I will present measurements of redshift-space distortions from the SDSS redshift survey main galaxy sample and interpretations of those measurements that use halo occupation modeling to account for non-linear clustering and the potentially complex relation between galaxies and mass. The inferred values of Ωm and σ8 are in fairly good agreement with the most recent estimates from other cosmic microwave background and large scale structure data, but they are significantly below the conventional"concordance" values of Ωm=0.3 and σ8=0.9.
