We compare the spatial distribution of the total 350 micron flux with the polarized 350 micron flux in molecular clouds observed by the Hertz polarimeter. For the majority of clouds the total and polarized flux peaks are coincident, indicating that the aligned grains are most likely spatially coincident with the unaligned grains responsible for the unpolarized flux. In clouds where the two peaks are not coincident we often find that the peak of the polarized flux is coincident with free-free emission from H II regions. We interpret this as evidence that the warm grains in the H II regions are spun-up to suprathermal velocities by incident photons (radiative torques), increasing the magnetic alignment efficiency.
