We have recently observed and analyzed the light and radial velocity curves of several short-period, overcontact binary stars systems. These include VW Boo, EQ Tau, BD+42 2782, and V2377 Oph. The photometry was obtained by undergraduate research students at the Valparaiso University Observatory. The spectra were obtained at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory or the David Dunlap Observatory, and some of them have been published. Consistent light and velocity curve analyses were carried out to determine the absolute parameters of the components. As is commonly found for overcontact binary stars, the primary components are underluminous and the secondaries are overluminous for their masses. However, when correction is made for the energy transfer between components, following the procedure of Mochnacki, the components are found to be in good agreement with the masses and luminosities of well-studied, detached binary stars of masses 0.5-1.5 M&sun;. The research was supported by the National Science Foundation and the Indiana Space Grant Consortium.
