Mr Beet's recent note on the rediscovery of a meridian obelisk for the
Royal Greenwich Observatory prompts me to describe a few notable
examples in Scotland, where the comparative lack of official vandalism
and urban sprawl has left them intact. The observatories themselves
have, however, disappeared.
