The response profile of the main Hipparcos detector, related to the observed star signal perturbation, is discussed. The perturbing signal is due to the proximity effect from brighter stars, in the instantaneous field of view. The different treatments of these objects, according to the magnitude difference and separations of the considered stars or components, is summarized. The numerical studies carried out to derive the optimum methods for the observations of components of double, multiple systems, and of stars in the vicinity of other stars, are outlined.
