An effort is made to remove the contradiction between results of direct and indirect methods of estimating seasonal variations of turbulence parameters (the turbulent diffusion coefficient K and the turbopause height h sub T) in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere. It is shown that the problem can be resolved by assuming the absence of a direct correlation between h sub T and K: high values of K can be accompanied by low h sub T (in the summer), while low values of K can be accompanied by high h sub T (in equinox periods).
