Planetary and satellite theories which are intimately related to the available computing capabilities, the accuracy of observational data, and the requirements of the astronomical community are reviewed. Particular attention is given to planetary and lunar theories; planetary satellite theories; artificial satellite theories; representative ephemerides; chaos, stability, and evolution; and future for general theories, numerical integration, and the artificial satellite problem. It is concluded that there is a continuous competition between the accuracy of observations and ephemerides. As more accurate observations have been achieved, more accurate ephemerides has been necessary.
