An imaging Fabry-Perot interferometer and a CCD detector have been used to obtain narrow band H-alpha images of M 82 which cover a 6-arcmin diameter field with 2-arcsec resolution. Twelve such images have been used to produce line profiles over a 15-A spectral region around H-alpha for more than 10,000 spatial positions in the galaxy, and profile analysis has yielded maps of velocity, velocity dispersion, line strength, and continuum intensity distribution. The H-alpha distribution exhibits even more filamentary structure than has been previously observed, and these intensity filaments appear to be velocity filaments as well. These data, combined with previous observations, indicate that hyperactive star formation in M 82 is fueled by infalling gas, and that the inner filaments may be explosively expelled.
