Mass models of S0 disks of three observed polar ring galaxies, A0136-0801, MCG 5-29-86, and NGC 4560A were examined. It was found that their S0 disks are dense enough to produce shock waves in the region R/r(0) not greater than 4.5, where R and r(0) are respectively the radius of the polar ring and the exponential scale length of the S0 disk. It is proposed that shock waves are a possible mechanism for the formation of the central holes in polar rings. Attention is also given to such related aspects of polar ring galaxies as the lack of shock waves, nuclear activity, evidence against the shock wave hypothesis, other mechanisms for formation of the central holes in polar rings.
