A new approximate description of radiative transfer in the wings of resonant lines is suggested. In the case of simple geometry and a uniform conservatively scattering medium, the derived approximate equation can be solved explicitly. The accuracy of the approximation and the limits of its validity are determined by comparing the approximate solution with the exact numerical solution, Harrington's approximate solution for line wings, and the solution for complete frequency redistribution.
