It is hypothesized that the thick airfall deposits near Mesogaea and Arabia represent polar environments that have changed as a result of polar wandering. The distribution and orientation of meteoritic craters formed at low impact angles are believed to confirm this hypothesis. These craters are believed to be the result of collisions by Phobos-like satellites which once orbited Mars in the equatorial planes.
