The existence of a predicted diffuse interstellar line at 7581 Å has been verified in the spectra of six reddened OB stars. Seven such stars, including HD 183143, were observed with a scanning echelle spectrometer at the Danish 1.5 m reflector at La Silla in the spectral region between 7574 and 7589 Å. The equivalent widths were found to have a strong correlation with the color excess. The weighted mean profile corresponding to unit color excess is found to be asymmetric like the core of a Fano profile and to have an equivalent width of 35±2 mÅ.
