It is shown that the basic behavior of the newly energed magnetic regions in the solar corona, as observed in EUV and soft X-rays from space, may be due to the fast dynamic relaxation of their field lines into the ambient field through intermingling by the interchange instability. The newly emerged magnetic flux region is thus made unstable and continually relaxes to lower energy states. These states are composed of thin sheets of plasma which penetrate into regions of opposite polarity.
