Results are presented from a statistical study of 10 S II layers in molecular cloud edges near H II regions. The physical parameters of the S II layers W3 A, Orion A, and NGC 2024 are derived. The results are combined with those of a previous study (Vallee, 1987) for the analysis. It is found that the mean kinetic temperature of the S II layers is about 40 K. The depth of a S II layer generally extends 2 to 3 times farther into the cloud than the depth of its associated nearby C II layer. The average electron density in a S II layer is found to be 6/cu cm due to sulfur, magnesium, silicon, and iron atoms. In addition, the S II excitation parameter and the turbulent plus thermal pressure in S II layers are examined.
