Attention is given to the accumulation and bulk composition of the moon, the earliest evolution of the crust, the filling of the mare basins, and the meteoritic bombardment of the moon. Also considered are the interaction of the moon with its environment, the internal processes of the present-day moon, and critical lunar questions including those involving the existence of diagnostic evidence for the origin of the moon and the amount of solar system history recorded in the moon.
