The principles and workings of the electronographic camera are described. Improvements over inherent drawbacks of the Lallemand 'camera electronique' and ease of film loading for field operation are described. The device combines the compact image storage and simplicity of photographic emulsions with the high quantum efficiency and linear response of photomultipliers, but without poisoning of the photocathode by gases evolved from the emulsion (since emulsion and photocathode are separated by a thin mica window).
