The surface density distribution in a sample of 132 supernovae in an unspecified number of face-on and edge-on spiral and irregular galaxies is analyzed. An exponential fit to the mean surface density of supernovae in a standard galaxy is determined, and this exponential distribution is shown to be representative of the exponential brightness distribution in the disks of 37 galaxies for which detailed photometry is available. It is also found that the distribution of supernova remnants in the Galaxy is compatible with an exponential surface density of supernovae.
