VLBI and MERLIN arrays have been used to observe, at 6 cm wavelength, three Compact Steep Spectrum (CSS) radio sources from the 3 CR catalog. 3C 287 and 3C 138 are quasars, 3C 49 is a galaxy. The three objects display quite different morphologies (the quasars are jetlike and the radio galaxy is a double), which are representative of the class of CSS sources. The comparison of the present data with observations at other frequencies is used to study these objects in some detail and to derive physical information. Standard source models and the possibility of interaction of the radio emitting material with the ambient medium are discussed to explain the source structures.
