Equations for locating the homopause in a planetary atmosphere in the framework of a one-dimensional model are examined along with data on characteristics of turbulence in earth's upper atmosphere. Some simplifications based on similarity theory are used to compare the turbulence data for earth's upper atmosphere with available information on turbulence in the atmosphere of Mars, Venus, and Jupiter. Calculations are performed which indicate that the eddy viscosity ranges from 10 million to 100 million sq cm/sec on Venus and Mars and from 100 million to 1 billion sq cm/sec on Jupiter. The homopause height is estimated to be 129 to 140 km on Venus, 120 to 140 km on Mars, and 500 to 850 km on Jupiter.
