An evaluation is made of the instrumental constraints influencing the performance of two different spectrograph camera configurations. It is noted that the optimal use of available space around secondary spectrographs and cameras must be accepted as a critical consideration at the very outset of spectrograph and camera focal plane integration. The placement of array detectors in dewars, as well as the window optics, must be considered an integral part of the cameras' optical design.
