A panoramic two-dimensional photon-counting detector system of the resistive anode type, which has been in use in the spectroscopic mode at a 1.6-m telescope for over a year, is evaluated with emphasis on its modularity and flexibility as well as the richness of its software environment. The centroiding module used includes an upper discriminator threshold which filters out multiple events that have occurred within one circuit time window and which cannot then be separated. A fiber-optic input window allows interface with a very fast camera.
