A model is developed for the composition of the daytime Martian ionosphere at heights of 110-220 km, comprising zones of O2(+), CO2(+), O(+), H(+), He(+), NO(+), C(+), N(+), CO(+), N2(+), CO2H(+), COH(+), OH(+), and electrons. Calculation results agree well with Viking-1 measurements of ion concentration. A group of O(+), O2(+), CO2(+), CO(+), and C(+) ions is identified whose concentrations does not depend (within an error or 20 percent) on the concentration of other kinds of ions. Analytical expressions are obtained for ion concentration and electron density. The relative error of calculations of the electron density (due to errors in measuring the model input data) mounts to 18 to 25 percent.
