The reasons for suspecting the existence of missing mass in the universe are reviewed, and the possible nature of that mass is considered. The possibility that the amount of missing mass will be sufficient to close the universe, as required by the inflationary scenario, is considered, and methods of searching for this matter are examined. New evidence is reviewed which indicates that the universe is closed and that 90 percent or more of it consists of nonbaryonic dark matter.
