Two developments in the systematic study of galaxy correlation functions are discussed: a reduction of the Shane-Wirtanen (1967) galaxy counts which greatly sharpens estimates of galaxy correlation functions and a method for computing the expected evolution of the two-point correlation function. Results are presented for an application of the latter method to the simplest case of an Einstein-de Sitter model, and an expression for the zeroth velocity moment is obtained whose form agrees with the hierarchical matter clustering expected in the gravitational-instability picture. Extrapolation to a density parameter with a value less than unity is considered.
