Applying models for the interstellar medium of our Galaxy to elliptical
galaxies where the amount of ultraviolet radiation may be low, it is
found that interstellar clouds in ellipticals may be cold and largely
H2. Consequently, low-mass clouds may collapse to form stars, and only
low-mass stars may form.
